Problem: One customer had an extremely unusual application - they wanted General Magnaplate to coat a 134" x 37" tube, which was going to be placed 300 feet underground. The user was then going to use a particle accelerator to shoot Neutrino particles through the tube to a sensor that was underground 400 miles away. The investigation was to measure the particles and see if they had changed after the test, and the user also specified that the coatings had to be USDA-approved. Solution: Many of General Magnaplate's coatings are USDA and FDA-compliant, but wear resistance was also important because the aluminum tube was being buried underground. In addition, the coating had to provide the tube with magnetic resistance to avoid affecting the test. General Magnaplate coated the tube in Nedox because it creates a steel-hard surface on aluminum parts while complying with USDA, FDA, NSF and AgriCanada standards. The customer was so happy with the coating that many additional tubes have been sent for coating.
