Problem: An inspection of the enrobing equipment revealed an extrusion unit, composed of steel, aluminum and brass, which forms and sizes the chocolates. When the equipment was purchased it was coated with Teflon, which began to peel, and was replaced by two other company's coatings, which both failed to solve the problem. Some of the replacement coatings began to peel after just 40 hours of production. Solution: The extrusion dies and fingers were thermally sprayed with PLASMADIZE which produces a permanently lubricated dry surface, while providing greater resistance to wear and corrosion. PLASMADIZE is fully compliant with FDA codes and approved by the USDA. Plasmadize is a superior alternative to other common industry coatings such as thermal spray, plasma spray, HVOF, metalizing, twin arc, wire arc, and thermal powder deposition.
