Rings Used In Chemical Polishing
Rings Used In Chemical Polishing

Problem:
Consumer demands on electronic devices ensure that the semiconductor industry has to provide its customer-base with unparalleled levels of performance and reliability.  One semiconductor manufacturer had an issue with a part used in the back-end manufacturing process of silicon wafers.  As each layer of material is deposited on a wafer, it has to be chemically machined to bring it within tolerance.  Subsequent layers are added and after each layer is put down, it has to be polished prior to the next being applied.  This process is known as chemical mechanical polishing (CMP).  The aluminum rings in this piece of equipment are exposed to corrosion from exotic gases during the manufacturing process and they were corroding despite being coated (with someone else's coating).

Solution:
Our experts out at the California facility suggested LECTROFLUOR as a solution because it provides superior corrosion and chemical resistance even in extremely hostile environments.  Since then, the rings have run for months without signs of corrosion and more orders are on their way!!!
